[This was the first televised performance of the Metropolitan Opera. The orchestra was comprised of thirty two musicians from the NBC Orchestra. The audience was limited to viewers of the approximately two thousand sets able to receive the National Broadcasting Company's ten hours of weekly transmissions. Announcements during the program appealed for contributions to the Metropolitan Opera Fund.

Hilda Burke and Armand Tokatyan also sang at the night's Sunday Evening Concert, which began at 8:30 p.m.]
