[This was the first performance in the new Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center, a regularly scheduled Student Performance sponsored by the Metropolitan Opera Guild. The audience of students and teachers was diverted at the last minute to the almost completed new building twenty-four blocks uptown. It was the first full test of the theater's acoustics and featured cannon shots from the stage to test the reverberation time. Also present as guests of the management were a number of artists, including Leonie Rysanek, Franco Corelli, Zinka Milanov, Frank Guarrera and Richard Tucker.]
