Review:

An announcement in the Boston Evening Transcript stated that there would be an "Orchestra of 100 Metropolitan musicians to be augmented locally." The program states: "MR. ALFRED HERTZ will conduct the Metropolitan Opera House Orchestra." However, his last official Metropolitan Opera performance was on April 24, 1915. A photo in the program of Act II shows the Metropolitan Opera scenery. However, an ad states: "The Proscenium, Scenery and Curtain for SIEGFRIED were painted by Joseph W. Murphy, Scenic Artist of the Broadway Scenic Company, W. 4th Street. Boston, South, etc." A review on Saturday, June 5, noted that Schumann-Heink had a cold but sang nevertheless. "Her dramatic performance was the greatest dramatic achievement of the evening. The Magic Fire did not come to pass save for one flash which may have meant a burnt fuse. Acoustics varied. There was too much whispering and too many walkouts."
