According to the Telegram, "The moment (the prisoners) were all released, the audience hurried away, as if it also had been liberated, and scarcely half of them remained to see the Herr Director, bowing and smiling, come before the curtain, surrounded by favorite singers. Only for a moment was he visible. A gigantic wreath of laurel presently hid him from view, as Mmes. Eames and Sembrich led him - and the wreath - away."]
